Since the birth of industrial urbanization over 200 years ago, romantic and transcendental writers, and modern scientists have tried to remind us of the importance of nature, for our health and well-being. 'Disconnected' follows in their footsteps, being particularly inspired by Richard Louv's concept of Nature Deficit Disorder.

Through an ego-centric worldview, an animal is wild, barbaric and subordinate to 'us', but through an eco-centric one, an animal is just what we are, because biologically, we are just another species of nature. Thus 'as long as the sun still sets behind the hills, I'm still an animal,' and therefore belong closer to the natural world.

From the rooftop looking down I see them glide across the town,
and when Monday comes around i see them do it over again.
Seems that we were meant for turning wheels, pressing buttons, and sitting still
Ancient creatures lived and died, so we could live our sedentary lives.

and the signals we receive keep on singing us to sleep.
